Avoid Cover Letter Mistakes

Sharing one of my stories before moving on to the main topic.

When I started my career in 2010, I began writing cover letters through the career pages of companies that many companies do not pay much attention to or care about. After spending one to two months doing this, I decided not to submit applications through the companies’ career pages and instead wanted to reach out directly to their HR management. So, I started writing cover letters addressed to Hiring Managers directly and realized that they, too, didn’t seem to care about the applications. I wasn’t even receiving rejection emails. This simply showed that they were not reviewing or paying attention to them.

So, I once again began reworking my strategy. I read some books, watched YouTube channels, and studied how to attract Hiring Managers through my email subject line, hoping they would open and read my cover letter. I revised my cover letter and started sending it out. After a few days, I began receiving rejection emails from automated systems. This meant that Hiring Managers were opening my emails, but after reviewing my cover letter, they either weren’t impressed or didn’t need a candidate like me.

During that time, I was also writing with a confidence, like this:

I was frustrated, and I didn’t have any way to understand why I was being rejected repeatedly. So, I conducted more research and changed the format of my cover letter, and then something magical happened. I began receiving job calls, and they knew who I was, what I was looking for, and how I could contribute to a team to help their company grow.

I’m sharing the format that worked for me here. I can’t guarantee* it will work for you, but if you follow this and start receiving replies, please leave a comment and let me know if it works for you too.
